Reasons to Consider a Career Change

If you’ve been thinking about changing careers, you’re definitely not alone. Most will have had at least 10 jobs by the time they reach 50. But even with that many positions, it’s still possible not to feel content in your current role. The employment landscape is now so diverse that there’s never been a better time than now to find the career of your dreams. If you’re still not sure if you should make a move, here are good reasons that just might convince you.

Outgrown Your Current Position

If you feel like you’ve given it your all but aren’t walking away each day feeling fulfilled, you’ve probably outgrown your job. You might like what you do but feel like you’re going nowhere. In some situations, you might need to broaden your horizons and go back to school. You could pay out of pocket or you could choose to apply for a scholarship. A simple online search will bring up a variety of options, many of which probably fit your financial and educational needs. Once you find one that’s a good fit, you can apply. It’s that easy.

Values Don’t Align

In addition to feeling like you’ve outgrown your role, your values and belief might not be the same any longer either. As businesses expand, it’s only natural that their values change. Unfortunately, they might change so much that you no longer feel like you’re a good fit. You may feel like you need to work for a company that has the same belief system as you or one that at least is on the same wave length to some degree.

Crave Work-Life Balance

We spend a huge amount of time at work. In fact, your job accounts for a majority of your day. Even in cases where someone is in love with their job, there still needs to work-life balance. Corporate positions usually demand fat more than 40 hours a week. You might find yourself working closer to 50 or 60, and that’s without factoring in the time it takes to commute. If you feel like a hamster on a wheel, it’s probably time to look for different opportunities. Work is a part of your life; it shouldn’t be your life. You can consider different roles within the corporate world or make the switch to work from home jobs that allow you to spend more time with and around family and the tasks within your household.

Dread Going to Work

If you dread waking up and going to work, you need to change careers. No one should ever feel like they’re being punished by going to work. Not being content in your career can spill over into your personal life. You might start to have problems that weren’t there previously with friends and family. You may become short-tempered or exhibit signs of depression when you used to be patient, calm, and generally a happy person.

Don’t Feel Passionate About What You Do

Even if you loved your job before, it’s still possible to lose that spark. The passion you used to have just isn’t there any longer. You might feel like you’re going through the motions just to collect a paycheck. Although everyone can feel this way at one point or another, it shouldn’t be ongoing or recurrent. When these feeling become the norm, it’s time to make a change.
