Take breaks from the screen – less phone usage, more time with the kids!

We all love watching the latest documentaries on Netflix and scrolling through our newsfeeds on social media – it’s a lot of fun. Remember this, though: long periods of screen time can hurt our eyes. By cutting down on your screen time, your eyes will feel better and thank you for it in the long run.

Try to be reasonable. You should be looking to take a break from your screen around every 20 minutes. You can even set reminders on your phone so that you don’t forget! And if you’re a real screen addict, some phones let you set time limits (per day) for how often you can spend using them.

Let’s say you’re browsing Instagram too much. Go into the settings and set your limit to 1 hour a day. This way, you can protect your eyes and focus more on your family who needs you!

Eat a healthy and balanced diet

The food and drink in our diet affect our entire body – even the eyes. Vitamins and minerals (such as zinc, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A and C) in some foods are perfect for healthy eyes and eyesight. Here are some examples of what you should be looking to intake:

  • Lots of fruits and vegetables
  • Fish high in omega-3 acids
  • Plenty of water (it keeps your eyes hydrated!)

Wear sunglasses

Just like how sun cream protects our skin, sunglasses protect our eyes. Thankfully, most of us don’t need a 2nd invitation to wear our sunglasses. Be it a vacation abroad or a party by the beach, every mom has her favorite pair.

If you are lucky enough to experience sunny weather, make sure you don’t forget your sunglasses – they keep your eyes safe from ultraviolet light. Even if it’s just the one sunny occasion, keep yourself protected!
