Last Period (LMP) vs Early Ultrasound
Last menstrual period dating uses a recalled date and calendar model. Early ultrasound dating uses the measured crown rump length. Comparing both due dates shows the day difference without diagnosing its cause.
A menstrual estimate of 10 March and scan estimate of 16 March differ six days. The six-day difference only describes two separate dating sources. A maternity team decides which date belongs in the medical record.
ACOG reports first-trimester crown rump length dating is accurate within five to seven days. Menstrual recall and ovulation timing can add extra uncertainty.
